View Full Version : Where do you keep your bike?

I was keeping my KTM 640 LC4 up a half flight of stairs off my kitchen. When my tenants protested over me making them help me get it up and down, I bought a shed.
I liked the Royal Outdoor products vinyl shed the best, but was told that wood would hold less moisture and be better for a bike. I ended up getting a cheap wood shed kit for under $400. Does the trick as long as you get 5 more 2x4s for better structual support inside. I used pressure treated 4x6s on the base and dug 9 patio blocks under it at ground level for support. 8x8 is a little small for my bike, but it fits.
I know this forum is about trailers, but hey, have dual sport - will travel.

one of my friends had the same problem, he found a enclosed 7 X 10 trailer for 1k, he really didn't need the trailer, but it would have cost that much for a shed, and now he has somewhere to sleep when the wife gets pissed!

I Find it's very convenient to leave my bike at Andy's house.

Old Stroker,
Nice, very nice.
My XR is hiding under a layer of contruction dust. As it is getting a new home built for it :) .

:D We finally got a trailer (12x6 Carmate). Nice to get home and just let the bikes stay in it until I wanna move them...which is too a shed or basement if major teardown is to be done. Did the pickup truck routine which was a drag...but did the job at the time.

Nice set up! I need to get my trailer all set up..I got some ideas from your pics. I see you are from Concord.... I'm sitting in Concord right now :) You should join us (that is, a big group of local riders) on some of our local rides. Haven't been to Stoneyford yet :(
Kevin and I have 2 street bikes and 2 dirt bikes stuffed in our very tiny 1 car garage. On top of the bikes we also have Kevin's workbench, toolbox and our washer and dryer :( Right now we have two visiting TTR's in there as well. Someday I'll have that big three car garage and shop....

Actually I've got a pretty nice shop I guess. When my wife found this house I told her we could get it if I could add on to the one car garage for a reasonable amount so I'd have a place for all my stuff. ( lathe, mill, weilder, blast cabnet, parts washers, tool boxes, bikes, jet skis, you know, all that guy stuff )
I got a contractor to give me a price on a 16 X 35 addition and it wasn't too bad, so I went for it. I always wanted a place like the one on the Xtreme t-shirt, "She can have the rest of the house". Well, it's not that slick, but it's all mine. Until the boy gets a little bigger I guess.

During riding season, it gets a space in the garage, next to the BMW K-bike, Honda Spree, Kayak, and lawn mowing equipment.
In the winter, it gets a nice cozy spot in one of the back bedrooms. This gives me a place to pat it's tank and give it consoling comments about how the weather will get better..:p

Living in a small apartment I keep my bike in my living room next to my television or in my kitchen where I work on it.
When it is in the living room I can look at it and secretly dream of the next ride while my girlfriend wathces tv. When it is in the kitchen nothing gets done excpet bike stuff. I did a whole rebuild not too long ago and had to eat out a whole month while I was waiting for my engine, suspension, and various other parts to come back to me.
I feel so guilty. I just keep my bikes in the garage, where it's hot in the summer, cold in the winter, and lonely all night long. I realize now how wrong I've been. I'm bringing them in and making a place of honor for them right in the living room, like the works of Austrian art they are, and if they leak gas and oil on the Berber carpet, I'm just going to look my wife in the eye with a steely gaze and firmly say, "Yes dear, I'll get those smelly motorcycles back out in the garage immediately."

Just tell her that berber carpet is great with stains. If she still says no, I recommend pulling out the carpet and laying down hard wood floors.
Ha! I'm actually thinking about taking the living room down to concrete, with a french drain, so I can just hose it out.
