I just got a new Dakota Quad-cab and I'm wondering about hauling my bike in the bed. It will fit, but the rear wheel will set on the tailgate and I'm a little worried about it bending or damaging the gate. If this works out, I'll get a bed extender.

I'm sure I'll end up getting an enclosed trailer for going to the races, after I get over sticker shock, but I'd still like to be able to haul the bike in the bed for quick trip to the woods.

Right now the bed is slicker than cat gut, so I've got to figure out what I'm going to do about that too.

Any Quad-Cab guys out there with suggestions ?

Not at all, I had a Dacotah and I weigh 200lbs. and my bike was 230lbs. on the gate at the same time cause I was too lazy to use a ramp I would lift back tire and drop off.

By the way I was at an Enduro this weekend and saw a guy with a ramp that folds into a tailgate fence, he used his bike stand as a step.

Yeah, a Ready Ramp. That's what I'll get. I like the multi-function design.

I was just worried that with the rear wheel riding there and the repeated bounce it might damage the gate.

I have a few buddies that have the spray in liner , Rhino I think is the name of it. It has good grip and seems pretty durable but the downside is that once it is sprayed on then it is on and not coming back out.

I have one buddy with a 6 X 12 fixed up for racing MX that he is trying to sell on the board at work , $1800 I think. He has a couple kids that raced some MX but they have become interested in other things ( girls ) as they have grown older.

Pick ups are handy bike haulers. I had a long bed S15 GMC years ago and it would handle 2 bikes and gear in the bed with the tailgate up. My favorite bike hauler out of the 4 I have owned so far , I still wish I hadn`t totaled it.

Hey Pat, could you get the particulars (i.e. brand, rear door type, color, etc.)on the trailer for me. Thanks!

Trailer info on the way for the 6 X 12.

I know of another one for sale that was set up by a harley rider with roof air and a high roof but don`t know any other details right now. It belongs to a buddy of my next door neighbor.

I have a short bed truck, and if you want to keep the weight off the tailgate, what I do is tie down the front end like you normally would, then move the back wheel to one side or the other. That way you can put the tailgate up and not have to worry about it bending or anything.

Yeah, I tried that, but it didn't get me off the tailgate. This things' only got a 5" bed. So far it hasn't been a problem. I've been running a couple of tie downs to the foot pegs so it won't bounce on the gate and everything seems to be fine.

I have a 02 Dakota Quad cab and my YZ 250f fits with the tail gate up if you put it in diagnally. It fits so well you almost can get away with no tie downs but i wouldn't recommend it.

I have been hauling my bike in my quad cab for three years and the only real problem with the tailgate is the paint wearing off where the rear wheel rubs side-to-side a little. Watch the front rail, though. I loaded a bike in the center a little too fast and bent the front of the bed. I am putting some type of reinforcement bar in and getting the bed sprayed.

I tried the sideways thing and I couldn't get the gate up, so I've just been going straight in.

The gate seems to be doing fine, but I have got a little dent in the front of the bed. I think I'm going to buy, or build a rail for the bed front. I've lot a little paint form the cooler and stuff in the bed, but it's a truck, right ?

I'm working over my van now that I have the truck, so I'll probable go back to using it once I get it fixed up. But, I really like going to the races in the truck. Much more comfy than the van and I like torque the V-8 puts out. It makes it so much fun to drive. :D

In order for it to fit you have to turn the bars to the right and have the front wheel all the way into the corner, then just shift the rear over and the gate should close with a inch or 2 to spare.

I'll have to give it another try.
