I drive chevy/gmc at work and own a ford.
Engine/Tranny: The Chevy 5.7 with auto trans is a great combo. Ford's 5.4 with auto is very good but forget the smaller motors with the auto (the OD has very tall gearing - the smaller engines shift in and out too much).
Brakes: Fords last longer and stop faster.
4wd - The Ford auto locking hubs are junk - figure on replacing them with manual ones for about $60.
Reliability - according to Conumer Reports buy the Ford.
Ride - I like the Chevy.
Overall - Pick the one you get the best deal on.

1998 and newer F150's don't have hubs, they have cv axles like the chevy's. I don't know about the new style chevy's, but the four wheel drive took for ever to engage on the last body style.
